The Office of the Northern Ireland Executive in Brussels can assist organisations from Northern Ireland to plan and deliver events in Brussels and ensure that they get the most out of their visit.
How we can help Northern Ireland Organisations
The Office of the Northern Ireland Executive in Brussels (ONIEB) have a dedicated Visits and Events Officer who can work with organisations to help them get the most from their visits and events. We can:
- work with organisations to put together content-appropriate programmes;
- identify key contacts for meetings;
- provide logistical advice;and
- suggesting possible speakers and invitees.
Since moving to new premises in December 2009, ONIEB has welcomed visitors from a range of Northern Ireland organisations:

Examples of previous events
Overview of some of the visits and events by Northern Ireland organisations, facilitated by ONIEB.
- Belfast City Council hosted a networking reception in the Office in January 2010. The Reception was a showcase of Belfast, held to coincide with an Open Cities conference being held in the European Parliament.
- In June, Northern Ireland and French MEPs were in attendance when the office had the honour of hosting an award ceremony for Annie Royer who received the French National Order of Merit for her work in promoting links between Lamorlaye (France) and Ballynahinch.
- Queen’s University Belfast held a kickoff meeting in March for the project Bridging Research in Ageing and ICT Development. The project is part of the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme and aims to develop a comprehensive Research and Technological Development (RTD) roadmap for active ageing.
- ONIEB organised and facilitated a comprehensive programme of meetings for the Northern Ireland Assembly OFMDFM Committee and Assembly Commission on 9 and 10 June 2010. Through the office’s network of contacts, meetings were arranged with: Parliamentary Officers from UK regional and national parliaments, House of Oireachtas; the three Northern Ireland MEPs; Irish Permanent Representation to the EU; the Bavarian and Basque Representations to the EU and the European Commission official coordinating the 2010 European Year of combating poverty and social exclusion. As part of the visit, the Northern Ireland Assembly OFMDFM Committee held its first Committee meeting outside Northern Ireland. The Committee gathered evidence from the current Trio of Presidencies of the Council of the European Union– Spain, Belgium and Hungary. The session focused on the priorities of the Trio, in relation to combating poverty and social exclusion.
- During these two days, the office also hosted the Northern Ireland Assembly Agriculture Committee who were in Brussels to lobby the European Commission on the financial penalty being applied to the Northern Ireland single farm payment.
