2007 is the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome. To mark this, the British Council, in conjunction with the European Commission Office in Belfast, has organised a competition for primary school children throughout Northern Ireland. Pupils are invited to design a postcard which will be used to mark Europe Day on 9 May 2007. The winning postcard will be printed and widely distributed by both the British Council and the European Commission Office.

Belfast to Host European Union of Supported Employment Conference

EUSE 8th conference logo

The Northern Ireland Union of Supported Employment (NIUSE) will host the 8th European Union of Supported Employment (EUSE) Conference in the Waterfront Hall, Belfast from 13-15 June 2007.
The conference, entitled “Supported Employment: Working for all?” aims to promote good practice in supported employment throughout Europe. Participants will explore how the model can be used to benefit other disadvantaged groups.
Delegates are invited to join EUSE in exchanging information, knowledge and expertise. This will also be an opportunity to debate and celebrate the success of Supported Employment as a means of providing inclusive and successful employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
This has significant importance as the European Union has designated 2007 the “European Year of Equal Opportunities for All”, a theme that will run throughout the conference. The event is likely to be of benefit to any individuals or organisations seeking to improve employment services for people with disabilities and those that are disadvantaged in society.
