Implementing the Recast Directive (2006/54/EC)

Implementing the Recast Directive (2006/54/EC)

The Recast Directive came into force on 15 August 2006 and all Member States were required to implement it by 15 August 2008.
The Directive requires no change to domestic legislation as it repeals and replaces four previous EU Directives which have already been transposed into Northern Ireland law by provisions of the Equal Pay Act (Northern Ireland) 1970, the Sex Discrimination (Northern Ireland) Order 1976, the Social Security (Northern Ireland) Order 1989 and the Pensions (Northern Ireland) Order 1995.  The predecessor Directives will be repealed with effect from 15 August 2009.
A Transposition Table (PDF 321 KB) has been prepared by the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister which sets how the Recast Directive has been transposed into Northern Ireland law.
