Consultation on Gender Directive 2007
Public consultation on the proposed amendments to the Sex Discrimination (Northern Ireland) Order 1976 ended on 21 September 2007. The consultation exercise, entitled “Implementing EU Obligations in Northern Ireland – The Gender Goods and Services Directive” – consisted of the following documents:
- Consultation on “Implementing EU Obligations in Northern Ireland – The Gender Goods and Services Directive”;
- Gender Directive online questionnaire;
- Response booklet;
- The draft Sex Discrimination Order 1976 (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2007;
- Regulatory impact assessment
- Screening assessment.
Although the Northern Ireland Assembly had authority to legislate on this matter, it was considered that the most effective way of securing compliance with European law was for the Government Equalities Office to bring forward UK-wide Regulations at Westminster.
