Implementation and Monitoring of Strategy

Implementing and monitoring the Gender Equality Strategy

The Gender and Sexual Orientation Equality Unit co-ordinates the work on implementing and reviewing progress on the Gender Equality Strategy, working closely with departments and their agencies, and in partnership with the Gender Advisory Panel. The 10-year strategy will be subject to mid-term review against a range of gender equality indicators, outlined in the publication Gender Equality Strategy: A Baseline Picture (OFMDFM, May 2008) (PDF 0.98MB)
All departments and agencies contribute to cross-departmental action plans (one for men, one for women) identifying how they will implement the Strategy and tackle gender inequalities, through mainstreaming and gender specific actions, across all policy and service delivery areas.  OFMDFM is currently co-ordinating work across departments to refresh cross-departmental gender action plans. In view of the importance of this work in delivering our equality commitments, and the cross-departmental nature of the work, the Executive will consider and agree these plans.  Thereafter OFMDFM will continue to work with departments and other stakeholders to report progress on an annual basis, with the in-depth mid-term review in 2011.
