Implementation and Monitoring of Strategy

Implementing and monitoring the Gender Equality Strategy

OFMDFM co-ordinates the work of implementing and reviewing progress (PDF 560KB) on the Gender Equality Strategy, working closely with departments and their agencies, and in partnership with the Gender Advisory Panel. In 2011 the 10-year strategy will be subject to mid-term review against a range of gender equality indicators, many of which are outlined in the publication Gender Equality Strategy: A Baseline Picture (OFMDFM, May 2008) (PDF 0.98MB). The mid-term review will also consider how this work sits alongside Equality Commission guidance on s 75.
All departments and agencies have contributed to cross-departmental gender equality action plans (one for men, one for women) (PDF 346KB).  These identify barriers to equality of opportunity and gender specific actions to tackle them over the lifetime of the Programme for Government. In hearings conducted last Autumn, a range of views were considered by the OFMDFM Assembly Committee, who made a number of recommendations, including publication of the action plans as “living documents”, subject to ongoing review and evaluation.
