About the Central Anti-Poverty Unit

The New Targeting Social Need (TSN) policy was launched in 1998 by the then Secretary of State Mo Mowlam.
The TSN unit was set up to drive this policy and co-ordinate actions across departments. As the policy for TSN has evolved into a broader Anti-Poverty Strategy the role of the unit has developed, hence the change of name.
Currently one of the main priorities for the unit is to work with departments to develop a National Action Plan against poverty and social exclusion.
