Older People
Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister is looking for an Advocate to champion the interests of older people in Northern Ireland at the highest level.
The Advocate will, amongst other duties, provide:
- a focus for individual older people and representative groups from the voluntary and community sector to highlight issues that are of concern for older people and bring these to the attention of Junior Ministers in OFMDFM.
- Junior Ministers and OFMDFM with an analysis based on the views of the voluntary and community sectors on the impact and practical out workings of policies and strategies aimed at older people.

Age discrimination in employment
The Employment Framework Directive (2000/78/EC) requires all member states in the European Union to introduce legislation to prohibit direct and indirect discrimination at work on the grounds of age, sexual orientation, religion and belief and disability. The Directive required that legislation prohibiting age discrimination was brought into force on 1 October 2006.
