Sustainable Development Strategy Implementation Plan

The Sustainable Development Strategy was formally adopted by the Executive on 27 May 2010.

Consultation on the Sustainable Development Implementation Plan

The consultation exercise on the Implementation Plan for the Strategy ran from 26 July to 5 November 2010.
The findings from the consultation process have been passed for consideration to the Committee for OFMDFM, and we are in the process of finalising an Implementation Plan for approval by the Executive.
The draft Implementation Plan contains commitments to action on behalf of each Government Department to deliver the objectives of the Strategy, and to monitor and report on progress.
The final Implementation Plan will be published here in due course.

Sustainable Development Strategy Implementation Plan Steering Group (SDSIPSG)

The development of the Implementation Plan is being led by the Sustainable Development Strategy Implementation Plan Steering Group (SDSIPSG), which draws its membership from a range of organisations from across the social, economic and environmental sectors.

Junior Ministers Newton and Kelly have agreed to co-chair the Group, which signifies the importance they place on the work of the Group and its potential to impact on the sustainability agenda of the future.
The Group will operate in a project board capacity to assure:
  • a high level forum for discussion on implementing our Sustainable Development Priorities
  • advice on planning and content of materials produced
  • a channel of communication between the project team and stakeholders
  • a high level profile in the wider community
The Steering Group is advisory with no statutory powers and it is anticipated that it will only be operational over a limited time span, subject to review by OFMDFM.  Membership of the Group is voluntary and without remuneration.
It is anticipated that the Steering Group can be supported, if necessary, by Working Groups, convened and chaired by Steering Group members.
The Sustainable Development Policy Team, OFMDFM will manage the project on behalf of the Department.
To ensure that ‘Everyone’s Involved’, emphasis is on focussing the efforts of stakeholders from outside government on delivery as well as development.  To this end, channels of communication are being encouraged between stakeholders and Steering Group Members to convey views and opinions.
