About the Economic Policy Unit

The Economic Policy Unit (EPU) is one of three divisions within the Economic Policy and Public Service (EPPS) Directorate. This directorate is also responsible for the Public Service Reform Unit and the E-Government Unit, as well as having an oversight role over the International Fund for Ireland.
EPU has a broad range of responsibilities. In conjunction with the Department of Finance and Personnel, it brings together work on the administration’s Priorities and Budget and the effectiveness programmes. The unit is responsible for the development of Public Private Partnerships policy and also for providing advice on a range of economic issues, particularly those of a central or crosscutting nature. EPU also has responsibility for the development and strengthening of policy capacity across the Northern Ireland Civil Service.
EPU is also responsible for the oversight and management of two companies, namely the Strategic Investment Board (SIB)external website and the Economic Research Institute of Northern Ireland (ERINI)external website
