December 2008 Credit Crunch Package

To protect the local people and business from the effects of the credit crunch the First Minister and the deputy First Minister announced in the NI Assembly on 15 December 2008, a range of measures to sustain the local economy through the worst period of the economic downturn.

Credit crunch themes

Action was focussed around 5 themes: energy and fuel poverty; dealing with debt; support for the housing market and construction industry; support for household budgets and mitigating the threat of unemployment; and support for business.

Evaluation of December 2008 Credit Crunch Package

This package of measures is now complete. All of the 76 credit crunch actions and sub-actions from December 2008 have been actioned. Nearly three quarters are finished entirely, and the rest are longer term to be taken forward within capital programmes and the investment strategy or mainstreamed within departmental current work programmes.  
A number of actions, 13 in total, will be taken forward within The Executive’s Priority Measures to Deal with the Economic Downturn”.
