North/South Implementation Bodies
On 02 December 1999 under the guidance of the North/South Ministerial Council, six North/South Implementation Bodies, established between the British and Irish Governments came into being. These Bodies exist to implement policies agreed by Ministers in the North/South Ministerial Council and to develop cross-border co-operation on practical matters of mutual concern.
The Bodies operate under the North/South Ministerial Council and are funded from grants made by the relevant government departments, North and South.
The six North/South Implementation Bodies are:
- Waterways Ireland

- The Food Safety Promotion Board

- InterTradeIreland

- the Special EU Programmes Body

- The Foyle, Carlingford and Irish Lights Commission

- The Language Body (which is composed of Foras na Gaeilge
and Tha Boord o Ulster-Scotch
)
In addition a company has been created to promote tourism
