European Priorities 2011-2012

The Executive's European Prioriites for 2011-12 were published on 25 June 2011.
The First Minister and deputy First Minister presented the Priorities to the Commissioner for Regional Policy, Johannes Hahn, at a meeting before the offiical opening of the new Peace Bridge in Derry/Londonderry.

What are the european priorites for Northern Ireland?

The priorities, which align regional objectives with the European Union’s Europe 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth, are:
  • Competitiveness and Employment;
  • Innovation and Technology;
  • Climate Change and Energy; and
  • Social Cohesion.
The agreed priorities will seek to ensure that the region benefits fully from the opportunities which exist to:
  • Increase the drawdown from European funding programmes;
  • Play a constructive part in shaping European policy; and
  • Participate in European networks to both learn and share our own best practice.
