Freedom of Information Act 2000

From 1 January 2005, the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act provided for a general right of access to all types of recorded information held by public authorities, subject to certain exemptions. It also placed an obligation on public authorities to supply information in response to written requests.
In addition, the Act requires public authorities to be clear and proactive about the information they will make public. To this end, this Department is required to produce a Publication Scheme which lists the documents produced in the course of our work which we propose to publish proactively. The scheme set outs the classes of information that we hold, the way in which we intend to publish the information and whether a charge will be made for the information.
