Ageing in an Inclusive Society
As part of the Promoting Social Inclusion (PSI) initiative of New Targeting Social Need (TSN), a commitment was given in the Programme for Government that the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister (OFMDFM) would establish a Working Group to consider the factors that cause Older People to be at risk of exclusion.
The PSI Working Group on Older People was established in 2002 and was made up of representatives from Northern Ireland departments, the wider public sector, the voluntary sector and organisations representing older people such as :
- Help the Aged
- Age Concern
- The Age Sector Reference Group
Following consultation the Older People strategy document, 'Ageing in an Inclusive Society' was launched in March 2005 and sets out the approach to be taken by Government to promote and support the inclusion of older people in Northern Ireland. An action plan for the financial year 2005/06 has been established and will be actioned during the course of the year.
The 2005/06 Annual Report (PDF 420 KB) was published in January 2007. The annual report summarises the departmental actions during 2005/06 to achieve the strategic objectives included in the older people's strategy. Progress on the implementation of the strategy will continue to be monitored and up-dated.
